My team and I can't wait to work with you. Book a session with us to capture your most beautiful Hawaii memories.
Tucked along the sunny Kona coastline, Kikaua Point Park, also known as Keiki Beach, offers one of the most peaceful and naturally beautiful beach settings on the Big Island. Soft golden sand, a calm lagoon, swaying palm trees, and rugged lava rock formations create a relaxed tropical atmosphere. From the moment you arrive, the setting feels quiet and private.
Access to the park is limited through the Kuki’o community, which helps preserve its uncrowded shoreline and serene environment. Because of this controlled entry system, the beach often feels calm and spacious, making it an ideal setting for a beach day, family photography sessions, couples portraits, maternity photos, and small elopements.
As Big Island photographers, we love how this beach allows families and couples to relax, connect, and enjoy the experience while we document meaningful moments. The open shoreline gives children space to explore and play naturally. The west-facing coastline provides warm sunset light that adds depth, glow, and emotion to photographs. For visitors seeking a scenic Kona beach that blends natural beauty with a calm atmosphere, Kikaua Point Park offers a stunning backdrop to capture memories during your time on the Big Island.
Kikaua Point Park is located within the gated Kuki’o community, just north of Kona International Airport. To visit, you must receive a parking permit from the security at the entrance gate, which will direct you to the designated beach parking area.
From there, a short paved walk leads to the shoreline. Because access is limited and reservations often fill quickly, planning ahead and arriving with extra time can help make the experience smooth and stress-free.

Kikaua Point Park offers a more tranquil and refined coastal landscape compared to many other Kona beach locations. The setting feels intentionally preserved, with wide open shoreline, a protected lagoon, and pockets of tropical greenery that create a sense of calm throughout a photography session.
Rather than dramatic terrain changes, the beauty here lies in subtle transitions between environments. Gentle sand textures, reflective water, palm silhouettes, and sculpted lava rock formations all contribute to imagery that feels soft, timeless, and connected to the natural rhythm of the coastline.
Because the beach is relatively uncrowded, sessions tend to unfold at an easy pace, allowing space for genuine connection and organic movement.

This gallery shows how multiple areas within Kikaua Point Park create a balanced and visually interesting photography session. We move between the sandy shoreline, lagoon, palm tree clusters, and lava rock edges to capture a variety of compositions. These range from wide scenic portraits to natural candid interactions and closer emotional moments. This approach captures the overall experience of visiting this quiet Kona beach while highlighting the location’s unique coastal scenery.
Over the years, Kikaua Point Park has hosted a wide variety of photography sessions, each shaped by the natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere of this Kona beach. The galleries below highlight real client experiences, including family portraits, maternity photos, couples photography, solo portraits, and intimate elopements. Seeing how different people interact with the landscape helps you imagine how your own session might look and feel at this scenic Big Island location.
Family sessions at Kikaua Point Park feel relaxed and natural thanks to the open sandy shoreline and calm coastal setting. Children have space to explore, which helps create genuine interaction alongside classic family portraits. Palm trees, ocean views, and soft light add to the timeless feel of photos captured here on the Big Island.

Couples sessions at Kikaua Point Park often unfold at an easy pace as partners walk the shoreline or explore the lava rock areas. The quiet atmosphere helps them stay present and connected. Sunset light adds warmth and depth to portraits along the Kona coast.

Maternity photography at Kikaua Point Park is supported by calm lagoon waters, soft sand, and peaceful ocean views. The setting allows expecting parents to move comfortably through different backdrops, creating a mix of scenic portraits and meaningful connection moments.

Solo portrait sessions here offer a balanced mix of tropical greenery, shoreline scenery, and textured lava rock. The quiet surroundings help individuals feel confident and relaxed, making it a beautiful location to document personal milestones or travel memories on the Big Island.

Small elopements at Kikaua Point Park benefit from the beach’s uncrowded feel and natural coastal beauty. Simple ceremonies on the sand or near the lagoon create a peaceful atmosphere, while warm evening light adds emotion and depth to the experience.

These Hawaii photos were captured at different times of day at Kikaua Point Park, allowing each session to take on its own natural mood. Morning light feels calm and refreshing. Midday sessions feel bright and easygoing near the lagoon and shaded tree areas. Sunset brings a soft golden glow that enhances the peaceful coastal atmosphere. Because this beach stays relatively quiet throughout the day, the changing light and gentle ocean backdrop help create imagery that feels relaxed and deeply connected to the moment.
Lighting conditions at Kikaua Point Park can shift throughout the day, and each time period offers a slightly different photography experience.

Kikaua Point Park offers a peaceful beach experience with thoughtfully designed amenities that help keep your visit comfortable while preserving the area’s natural beauty. Because this beach sits within the gated Kukio community and requires advance reservations, it often feels quiet, clean, and well-maintained compared to many public beach parks along the Kona Coast.

Visitors will find lava rock restrooms and outdoor rinse-off showers near the main beach access path. These facilities are simple but functional, making it easy to change, wash off sand, or freshen up after swimming. The rustic design blends beautifully with the surrounding landscape, using natural stone and wood elements that reflect the cultural and environmental significance of the area.
Shaded picnic areas and open lawn spaces give families a place to relax, enjoy snacks, or take a break from the sun. Kikaua Point Park does not offer lifeguards, food vendors, or large public park infrastructure. Its minimal amenities help keep the experience calm and uncrowded. Visitors should plan ahead and bring water, reef-safe sunscreen, and any beach gear they may need for the day.
Overall, the bathrooms and basic beach facilities at Kikaua Point Park provide just enough convenience to support a comfortable visit while maintaining the park’s quiet, natural atmosphere.
Professional photography sessions at Kikaua Point Park require commercial insurance and advance permits. A commercial use permit must be obtained through the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR), and additional approval is typically required through the Kuki’o Community Association. Because the beach is accessed through a private residential area, photographers must coordinate with community security and follow location-specific guidelines.
Elopements: Only one elopement is permitted per day at Kikaua Point Park, and reservations must be made in advance. Elopement gatherings can accommodate up to 30 people. After providing proof of commercial liability insurance, photographers, wedding planners, and officiants may apply for an elopement permit at no cost by contacting the Security Manager at the Kuki’o Community Association.
Portrait Sessions: Professional portrait sessions require a $20 commercial permit through the DLNR after creating a permit account. Applicants must hold a valid Hawaii General Excise Tax (GET) license and provide proof of liability insurance. Portrait sessions are also limited to a maximum capacity of 30 people.
Planning ahead and working with a photographer who understands these requirements helps create a seamless experience while respecting both the natural setting and the residential community.
One unique feature of Kikaua Point Park is its public coastal access to Kukio Beach, which lets visitors explore more of this beautiful shoreline on foot. A clearly marked public trail begins near the main beach area and follows the natural lava rock coastline. The route offers scenic ocean views and a peaceful walking experience.

The trail is relatively short but includes sections of uneven lava rock, sand, and coastal vegetation, so wear comfortable footwear. As you walk, you will pass areas of cultural significance, including ancient Hawaiian sites and fragile rock walls. Stay on the designated path, avoid climbing on stone structures, and show respect for the land and its history.
Kukio Beach, just south of Kikaua Point Park, features a wider sandy shoreline and calm ocean conditions that often feel ideal for swimming and relaxing. The surrounding residential community remains private, but shoreline access along the ocean stays public. Walking the coastal trail offers a great way to experience both beaches during the same visit.
Because parking at Kikaua Point Park remains limited and requires advance reservations, many visitors plan their beach day with flexibility. If parking is full, take a short 10-minute drive to Kukio Beach, where more public parking is usually available. From Kukio Beach, you can still experience the beauty of Kikaua Point Park by walking north along the public coastal trail, which provides shoreline access between the two beaches.
Plan ahead and bring water, sun protection, and reef-safe sunscreen. This preparation helps ensure a comfortable and enjoyable coastal walk while you explore both locations during the same outing.
