Engagement Portraits on a Black Sandy Beach
While they were visiting the Big Island to celebrate a friend’s wedding, Tommy popped the big question to Sadie! To document their special occasion, they reached out to us to book an engagement session at an off-the-beaten-path location.
We took them to one of our favorite black sand beaches on the Big Island of Hawaii and explored multiple backdrops with them while they connected with each other and their surroundings.

This unique bay is known for its striking blend of black lava rock, lush greenery, and sparkling turquoise waters. The bay is home to both saltwater and freshwater ponds, with the warm, crystal-clear waters creating a perfect habitat for sea turtles, which are often spotted basking on the shore or swimming nearby. The area’s remote and peaceful atmosphere, coupled with its incredible natural beauty, makes it an ideal spot for those seeking solitude or a nature-filled adventure.
