My team and I can't wait to work with you. Book a session with us to capture your most beautiful Hawaii memories.
Whether you’re celebrating a once-in-a-lifetime surprise proposal, planning a wedding, or gathering your family for an unforgettable Hawaiian vacation, Kona Village, A Rosewood Resort (often searched as Rosewood Kona Village) offers one of the most breathtaking settings on the Big Island for professional photography. Nestled along the Kona Coast, this luxurious oceanfront resort features pristine white-sand beaches, dramatic black lava-rock shorelines, swaying palm trees, and some of the most spectacular sunsets in Hawaii.
As Big Island photographers, we’ve photographed families, couples, surprise proposals, and intimate weddings at many of the island’s most stunning locations, and Kona Village, A Rosewood Resort continues to be one of our favorites for its blend of luxury, privacy, and natural beauty.
Rosewood Kona Village is located along the Kona Coast, just north of Kona International Airport. If you’re staying at the resort, planning your photography session is especially convenient because you can get ready in your hale (a traditional Hawaiian-style bungalow) and meet us right on the property without having to drive to another photography location.
For guests staying at Rosewood Kona Village, one of the biggest advantages is having such a beautiful photography location right outside your accommodations. The resort is spread across 81 acres and features individual Hawaiian-inspired hale (private bungalow-style accommodations) rather than a traditional hotel tower, giving the property a much more private and relaxed feel.
Scheduling photos during your stay also makes it easy to fit a session into your vacation plans. We can meet you at the resort, photograph several different areas around the property, and finish near the beach for sunset. Afterward, you can head back to your hale or continue your evening with dinner or drinks without having to travel somewhere else on the island.
If you’re not staying at Kona Village, A Rosewood Resort, visiting the property is still fairly easy. Visitors can either make a reservation at one of the resort’s upscale restaurants or walk up to one of its more casual dining bars for drinks and food. When you arrive at the security gate, simply let them know where you’re headed, and they’ll direct you onto the property.
Self-parking and valet parking are complimentary, making it easy to spend some time enjoying the resort before or after your photography session. Once you’re parked, the restaurants, bars, resort grounds, and coastline are all easily accessible on foot.
You don’t necessarily have to stay overnight to enjoy some of the dining experiences at Rosewood Kona Village. The resort has several upscale restaurants, including Moana and Kahuwai Cookhouse & Market, as well as more casual options like Shipwreck Bar & Sushi, Talk Story Bar, and Moana Cocktail Bar.

For sunset photography sessions, we especially recommend making a dinner reservation for afterward. You can meet us for your photos, explore several beautiful areas around the resort, and then head straight to dinner. If you’d rather keep things casual, you can stop by one of the resort’s more relaxed bars for drinks and something to eat.
It’s a great way to turn your photography session into an entire evening at Kona Village rather than visiting the resort just for photos.
When you book a Rosewood Kona Village photography session with us, we’ll help you plan your timing, meeting location, and the best areas to photograph based on your session and whether you’re staying at the resort.
One of the things we love most about photographing at Rosewood Kona Village is how many different backdrops we can use without ever leaving the resort. The property has white-sand beaches, black lava rock, palm trees, tropical landscaping, and beautiful ocean views, so your entire gallery doesn’t have to look like it was taken in the same spot.
During a session, we can easily walk between several different areas of the property. We might start near the palms and greenery, make our way along the white-sand coastline, and finish on the lava rock as the sun begins to set. Kona Village also features a small, secluded black-sand beach, giving us another completely different backdrop to incorporate into your photos. With so much variety within walking distance, we can create a gallery with several different looks without spending part of your session driving from one location to another.
Kona Village works beautifully for family photos, couples sessions, surprise proposals, engagements, elopements, and weddings. It’s especially convenient if you’re staying at the resort because you can get ready in your hale and simply walk out to meet us for your session.
Whether you want relaxed barefoot photos on the beach, something a little more dressed up around the resort, or a combination of both, we can plan your session around the scenery and overall feel you’re looking for.

These images highlight just a few of the beautiful landscapes you’ll find throughout Rosewood Kona Village. From white-sand beaches and a secluded black-sand cove to lava-rock coastlines, palm trees, and tropical greenery, there is so much variety within walking distance. Having all of these different backdrops in one location gives us plenty of options when planning your session and allows us to create a gallery that showcases both you and the natural beauty of Kona Village.
Rosewood Kona Village is beautiful throughout the day, but the lighting and overall look of your photos can change quite a bit depending on when we schedule your session. For the softest and most flattering natural light, we generally recommend planning your photos around sunrise or sunset. Afternoon sessions can also work well on overcast days.
For most family photos, couples sessions, surprise proposals, engagements, and wedding portraits, sunrise or sunset offers the best combination of beautiful light and comfortable temperatures. If your schedule requires an afternoon session, we’ll keep an eye on the weather and take advantage of overcast conditions whenever possible.
The galleries below feature real sessions we’ve photographed at Rosewood Kona Village, from family vacations and couples portraits to surprise proposals, engagements, and weddings. Each session takes advantage of a different combination of the resort’s beaches, palm trees, lava-rock coastline, and tropical scenery.
No two sessions look exactly the same. Some families want playful, candid photos along the beach, while couples may prefer something romantic and relaxed around the resort. For surprise proposals and weddings, we’ll help plan where and when to photograph so we can capture the moment itself and still have plenty of time afterward for portraits around Kona Village.
No matter what brings you to the Big Island, our goal is to create a relaxed experience and a gallery that feels like you while capturing the beautiful surroundings that make Kona Village such a special place to visit.

If you’re looking for a romantic grand gesture, we can also create a Hawaii beach proposal setup with white florals, candles, and an illuminated “Marry Me” sign. We’ll help coordinate the setup with your photography so everything is ready before you arrive, allowing you to focus on the moment while we capture the surprise and celebration that follows.

For couples planning a destination wedding or elopement on the Big Island, Kona Village, A Rosewood Resort offers a beautiful setting where you can celebrate, stay, dine, and take your wedding photos all in one place.
One of the biggest advantages of having your wedding at Rosewood Kona Village is the variety we can incorporate into your wedding photos. We can photograph getting ready at your hale, document your ceremony and celebration, and then explore different areas of the property for newlywed portraits.
Depending on your timeline, we can plan time for photos among the palms and tropical landscaping before heading toward the coastline for golden hour sunset photos. With so many different backdrops within walking distance, you can have plenty of variety in your wedding gallery without spending a large portion of your day traveling between locations.
Kona Village is also a beautiful option for couples planning something smaller. An intimate wedding or elopement gives you more flexibility to slow down, enjoy the resort, and spend more of your day together rather than following a traditional wedding timeline.
Your photography can be planned around the experience you want, whether that’s getting ready separately before your first look, exchanging vows near the ocean, celebrating with a private dinner, or simply exploring the property together for sunset portraits after your ceremony.
Your wedding portraits don’t have to feel like a separate photoshoot squeezed into the middle of your day. We can build photography into your timeline so you have time to enjoy Kona Village together while we document everything naturally along the way.
If you’re planning a wedding or elopement at Rosewood Kona Village, we’d love to help you create a photography timeline that takes advantage of the resort’s different landscapes, the best light of the day, and everything you want to experience while you’re here.
