Surprise Proposal and Dinner Under the Stars at The Four Seasons Hualalai | Big Island, Hawaii
An Unforgettable Evening of Love on the Big Island
Some moments hold a kind of magic that words can hardly capture. This Four Seasons Hualalai proposal was one of them. Set along the Kona Coast at sunset, the evening unfolded with ocean views, soft light, and quiet anticipation.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, Landy led Nicole down the beach. The sound of the waves and the warm island breeze set the perfect scene for his surprise proposal. When he dropped to one knee, the world seemed to pause. As Nicole said yes, a rainbow appeared over the water as if Hawaii itself was celebrating their love.
To make the night even more special, the couple ended the evening with a private candlelit dinner under the stars. They dined by tiki torchlight with soft island music in the background. It was the most romantic way to propose on the Big Island, an experience filled with joy, beauty, and love.
As your Big Island proposal photography team at Hawaii Adventure Portraits, we love helping couples create moments that feel effortless and true to who they are. Whether it is a surprise proposal at sunset or a private dinner by the ocean, every story we capture reflects connection, emotion, and the beauty of Hawaii’s landscapes.

Client Review: A Heartfelt Experience Working With Hawaii Adventure Portraits
“I had the pleasure of doing my surprise engagement photoshoot with Christian from Hawaii Adventure Portraits, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I was initially drawn to her photography style and editing on social media.
From her initial consult to the day itself, Christian made us feel comfortable and at ease. She offered gentle suggestions that enhanced the shoot and proposal itself. She gave us plenty of much wanted space during the proposal, and went above and beyond by picking up leis for us to adorn for the more staged portion.
I would highly recommend Christian to anyone looking for professional photos on the Big Island.”

The “Hidden in Plain Sight” Strategy That Made This Proposal a Success
What made this Hawaii luxury proposal at the Four Seasons Hualalai so memorable was how effortlessly it caught her by surprise. Landy told Nicole they were heading to the beach to enjoy the sunset before dinner, creating the perfect setup for a relaxed evening. She never suspected that a life-changing question was about to happen, even though her photographer was already there, blending into the scene.
This is what we call The Hidden in Plain Sight Strategy. It allows everything to unfold naturally while keeping the surprise completely intact. The result is a genuine reaction filled with real emotion and joy, all captured beautifully on camera. It’s one of our favorite ways to help couples plan a stress-free Hawaii proposal that feels authentic, elevated, and unforgettable.
Outfit and Styling Tips for a Romantic Sunset Proposal
Nicole looked radiant in a soft floral dress that moved beautifully in the ocean breeze. The warm tones of the sunset matched her look perfectly. Her flower crown was custom ordered to match her dress and added a romantic island touch. Landy wore a dark blazer over a crisp white shirt and light trousers. His outfit balanced elegance with the relaxed spirit of Hawaii.
We also suggested a blazer so he could discreetly hide the ring box before the proposal. It kept the surprise a secret until the perfect moment. Together, their looks felt natural and perfectly suited for a sunset proposal on the Big Island.
If you are planning your own Hawaii proposal or engagement session, choose outfits that feel comfortable and true to you. In addition, think about how your colors will work with the scenery. Soft neutrals, breathable fabrics, and styles that move in the ocean breeze photograph beautifully. Simple, well-coordinated looks let your connection and the landscape shine.
Why This Four Seasons Hualalai Proposal Was So Meaningful
What made this evening so unforgettable was not just the beauty of the location but also the thought behind every detail. Landy planned a moment that reflected their relationship perfectly. It was personal, intimate, and full of heart. This session reminded us that proposals are about more than the question itself. They’re about celebrating connection and capturing love in its purest form. Because of that, evenings like this one stay in our memories for a lifetime.
The Four Seasons Hualalai Dinner Under the Stars experience offers the ultimate romantic setting for a surprise proposal or celebration.
Pair it with a surprise proposal photoshoot, and you’ll have every beautiful moment preserved to relive again and again.
