Sandy Beach Lava Fields Family Portraits

One of the Big Island’s most iconic landscapes is the 1801 lava flow from Mauna Loa, creating a striking backdrop for portrait sessions. We had the joy of photographing a family with three children (and one on the way) at a picturesque beach location, perfect for capturing both family and maternity portraits during their Hawaii getaway.

What makes this spot so special is its easy access, ample parking, and the chance to spot sea turtles along the shoreline, all set against a beautiful white sandy beach. After the session, we recommend heading to Lava Lava Beach Club, one of the island's favorite restaurants, where live music and lawn games offer the perfect way to unwind as a couple while the kids have fun.

We loved capturing these scenes:

  1. Family Grouped Together

  2. Solo Maternity

  3. Husband and Wife

  4. Just the Girls

  5. Sister Sister

Location: ʻAnaehoʻomalu Beach (A-Bay)

A-Bay is a picturesque stretch of shoreline surrounded by lush palm trees, ancient fishponds, and historical Hawaiian sites, including petroglyphs and remnants of ancient fish traps that highlight the area’s cultural significance. With stunning views of nearby volcanic peaks, the area’s gentle breezes and scenic beauty make it one of the most serene and accessible beaches on the island.
